UNIT 2
Design + Programming

Tutors: Javier + Junichiro

Introduction :

Unit 2 is a 2 month personalized course in, mainly but not only, architectural design, and is aimed at students of architecture, environmental artists, interior design, product design and anyone with an interest in learning the latest techniques and methodologies in digital design and visualization regardless of your background.

The idea is to discuss your personal preferences first in order to tailor the program to your objectives. In addition to this we will suggest topics and agendas we find interesting and contemporary such as:

Functionally graded materials
Large scale 3d printing
Novel/experimental typologies for site/culture specific projects
Dystopic narratives
Bio-inspired strategies, aesthetics and performances
Generative and parametric design

The course equally weights concept design/visualization, 3d modelling and programming skills and attempts to integrate them all in one streamlined pipeline.

The course is designed for all levels and backgrounds, from complete beginners to already advanced.

Material Covered :

- Architectural design brief and methodology
- Procedural modelling using Houdini
- Polygonal modelling using Modo
- Programming using Rhino-Grasshopper (plugins used depend on the project)
- Programming using VEX in Houdini
- Concept rendering using Redshift

We will provide licenses for Modo and Houdini
The fully functional Demo version of Redshift works with our Houdini Education license
If you do not currently have access to Rhino we will also provide an educational license for this.
